All Columbia University students who graduated between October 2013 and March 2014, and degree candidates expecting to complete graduation requirements by May 2014, are invited to join the degree candidate procession and to participate in the University Commencement exercises on Morningside Campus on May 21, 2014.
The degree candidate procession will begin at 9:30 a.m. after the chapel bells ring. Degree candidates should begin assembling in the designated area for their schools at approximately 9:00 a.m. See maps.
Graduating students who wish to participate in the ceremony must wear their caps and gowns and carry their University ID in order to gain entry through one of the designated upper campus entrances to line up for the procession.
-
Those who graduated before May 2014 and no longer hold University IDs should bring a photo ID and their Commencement registration confirmation email or a letter from their school on University stationery indicating their participation in the ceremony.
-
Beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Commencement Day and lasting until the end of the ceremony, navigation across campus will be difficult. Therefore, we strongly urge all graduating students to pick up their caps and gowns prior to the morning of the event.
Ceremony marshals will organize each school group into two rows and usher candidates to the proper seating area on Low Plaza. If you would like to sit next to a friend, be sure that you line up in the same single-file line rather than across from each other.
Academic attire is required to participate in the procession.
