Visiting Columbia

Columbia University is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The Morningside Heights campus houses three undergraduate schools—Columbia College, the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science and the School of General Studies—as well as graduate and professional schools for arts and sciences, architecture, the arts, business, international affairs, journalism, law and social work. The School of Continuing Education is also on the Morningside Heights campus.

Columbia University Medical Center, located at 168th Street and Broadway in the Washington Heights neighborhood, encompasses the graduate schools of medicine, dentistry, nursing and public health, as well as the hospital.

Prospective Students

High school students interested in applying to Columbia University should visit the Columbia College/Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science admissions website for a schedule of information sessions and tours.

Nontraditional students—students with a break in their educations of one year or more, or students with a compelling reason to attend part time—interested in completing their undergraduate degree at Columbia University should visit the School of General Studies admissions website for a schedule of information sessions and tours. Additionally, prospective students interested in completing the basic requirements for medical school should consult the Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program admissions website for a schedule of information sessions and tours.

For graduate information sessions or to schedule a meeting with professors or students from a specific area of study, please contact the department directly.

Group Visits

All high school and prospective undergraduate groups should arrange tours through the prospective student links above. For all other guests, email [email protected] a minimum of three weeks in advance to inquire about availability. Groups with more than ten participants unable to schedule a guided tour are encouraged to explore the self-guided tour options listed above.

General Tours

Groups of fewer than ten people are free to tour the Morningside campus on their own or join the guided tour at 1:00 p.m. The guided tour is not specific to any academic program and does not include admissions information. Maps and other materials for self-guided tours are available in the Visitors Center, located in room 213 of Low Memorial Library. The Visitors Center is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. No registration is required; however, a current Columbia I.D. is required to enter all buildings except Low Library unless accompanied by a University tour guide. A virtual tour and podcast are also available.

Luggage storage is not available.
